Crossword Genius

Place where Mormons can be found welcoming Roman Catholic writer (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

plutarch

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'writer' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'place where mormons can be found welcoming roman catholic' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'place' could be 'pl' (abbreviation used in postal addresses) and 'pl' is present in the answer.
'roman' could be 'rc' (synonyms) and 'rc' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'utah' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for plutarch that I've seen before include "Ralph cut (anag) - Greek biographer" , "old biographer" , "Classic Greek biographer" , "Classical Greek essayist (Parallel Lives)" , "Greek writer" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
