Crossword Genius

Place with insects and shrubs (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

plants

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'shrubs' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both plants as well as being plural nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'place with insects' is the wordplay.
'place' becomes 'pl' (abbreviation used in postal addresses).
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'insects' becomes 'ants' (ant is a kind of insect).
'pl'+'ants'='PLANTS'

'and' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for plants that I've seen before include "Places in the earth" , "Living organisms without power of movement" , "Sets seeds in the ground" , "climbers?" , "Trees, shrubs etc." .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
