I believe the answer is:

agoras

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'places formerly selling' is the definition.
I can't tell whether this defines the answer.

'gold-lined ranges' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'gold' could be 'or' ('or' is the heraldic name for gold) and 'or' is present in the answer.
'ranges' could be 'agas' (as in an Aga oven range) and 'agas' is found within the remaining letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for agoras that I've seen before include "Greek marketplaces" , "Hellenic gatherings" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
