Crossword Genius

Platform gives scripture teacher lift (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

riser

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'platform' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'gives scripture teacher lift' is the wordplay.
'gives scripture' becomes 're' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'teacher' becomes 'sir' (way of addressing a male teacher).
'lift' says the letters should be written in reverse (I've seen 'lifting' mean this).
're'+'sir'='resir'
'resir' written backwards gives 'RISER'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for riser that I've seen before include "Vertical pipe in a building" , "Bit of a step up?" , "Upwardly mobile type" , "one of a number in flight" , "upright portion of step" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
