Ross

I believe the answer is:

omnivore

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'possibly badger' is the definition.
(I know that badger is a type of omnivore)

'new man in east end residence?' is the wordplay.
'new' becomes 'n' (common abbreviation eg NT for New Testament).
'man' becomes 'Ivor' (man's name).
'in' indicates putting letters inside.
'east end residence?' becomes 'ome' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'n'+'ivor'='nivor'
'nivor' inserted within 'ome' is 'OMNIVORE'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for omnivore that I've seen before include "It eats other animals or plants, as human does" , "One who eats all kinds of foods" , "Not a fussy eater!" , "One eating anything" , "It will eat anything, animal or vegetable" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
