Put honey in traps set up to catch baby (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sweeten

'put honey in' is the definition.
(to put honey in something would sweeten it)

'traps set up to catch baby' is the wordplay.
'traps' becomes 'nets' (net is a kind of trap).
'set up' says the letters should be written backwards.
'to catch' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'baby' becomes 'wee'.
'nets' reversed gives 'sten'.
'sten' going around 'wee' is 'SWEETEN'.

(Other definitions for sweeten that I've seen before include "temper" , "We teens! (anag)" , "Make fresh" , "Add sugar etc" , "Make saccharine or honeyed" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
