Ross

I believe the answer is:

pad

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'crib?' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'quietly publicises local's' is the wordplay.
'quietly' becomes 'p' (p for piano and quiet).
'publicises local's' becomes 'ad' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'p'+'ad'='PAD'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for pad that I've seen before include "Piece of soft material or bachelor's flat" , "Floating leaf of a lily" , "Tread softly" , "pack" , "Stuff the animal's foot" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
