Raised voice in argument after short trip (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

falsetto

'raised voice' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'argument after short trip' is the wordplay.
'argument' becomes 'set to' (set-to can mean a fight or argument).
'after' says to put letters next to each other.
'short' means to remove the last letter.
'trip' becomes 'fall' (trip can mean to fall over).
'fall' with its final letter taken off is 'fal'.
'setto' after 'fal' is 'FALSETTO'.

'in' is the link.

(Other definitions for falsetto that I've seen before include "Unusually pitched" , "High-pitched male voice" , "High singing method" , "Male voice above the normal range" , "Singing voice forced above its natural one" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
