Crossword Genius

Real setback for Ophelia's brother (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

laertes

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'ophelia's brother' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'real setback' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'real' is 'laer' which is present in the answer.
'setback' could be 'tes' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'tes' is found in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'for' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for laertes that I've seen before include "Son of Polonius (Hamlet)" , "killer in drama" , "Hamlet's killer" , "Father of Odysseus" , "Man advised not to borrow" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
