Receiving nil in points, nevertheless succeeded (3)
I believe the answer is:
won
'succeeded' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'receiving nil in points nevertheless' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'nil' could be 'o' (O resembles 0) and 'o' is present in the answer.
'points' could be 'wn' (two compass points) and 'wn' is found in the leftover letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for won that I've seen before include "Succeeded, conquered" , "little cash in Korea" , "and 26: Chinese dumpling" , "Eastern currency" , "Korean currency, was victorious" .)
