I believe the answer is:

enteritis

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'source of internal problems' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'record appeal constitutes' is the wordplay.
'record' becomes 'enter' (enter can mean to enter into a record).
'appeal' becomes 'it' ('it' can mean something attractive or appealing).
'constitutes' becomes 'is' ('be' can be a synonym of 'constitute').
'enter'+'it'+'is'='ENTERITIS'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for enteritis that I've seen before include "complaint" , "illness" , "Inflammation of the intestine" , "Intestinal inflammation" , "not an infectious disease" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
