Crossword Genius

Reverse van route (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

transit

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue might be a double definition.

'reverse van' is the first definition.
'transit' can be an answer for 'van' (I've seen this before). I am unsure of the 'reverse' bit.

'route' is the second definition.
The definition and answer can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe you can see an association between them that I can't see?

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for transit that I've seen before include "Passage of planet across the disc of the sun" , "Passage of a planet across the sun's disc" , "Pass across" , "Passage of heavenly body" , "Conveyance of goods or people - tin star (anag)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
