Rise for workers? (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

anthill

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'rise for workers?' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both natural objects as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

'rise' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'rise' could be 'hill' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'hill' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ant' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for anthill that I've seen before include "Nest" , "Mound of insects" , "Scene of great activity" , "Mountain (of insects)" , "lots of workers" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
