I believe the answer is:

intrinsic

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'to be genuine' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'roman catholic in sin it turned' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'catholic' could be 'c' (abbreviation as in RC for Roman Catholic) and 'c' is present in the answer.
'in' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'sin' is 'ins' which is located in the answer.
'it' could be 't' (abbreviation. e.g. in 'tis) and 't' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'out' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for intrinsic that I've seen before include "Of the essential nature of something" , "Naturally belonging" , "native?" , "Belonging as an inherent and essential part" , "Genuine" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
