(trickling is a kind of running)

'slowly to dupe the french' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'dupe' could be 'trick' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'trick' is found in the answer.
'the french' could be 'les' (plural form of 'the' in French) and 'les' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
