I believe the answer is:

intense

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'profound' is the definition.
(associated in meaning)

'said to be so different from' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'from' could be 'in' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'in' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'tense' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'say' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for intense that I've seen before include "Fervent" , "Strong in degree or emotion" , "Showing strong feelings or opinions" , "'Acute, extreme (7)'" , "Vived, extreme, acute" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
