Second-hand publication from America? (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

used

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'second-hand' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'publication from america?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'america?' could be 'us' (United States) and 'us' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ed' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for used that I've seen before include "Accustomed - exploited" , "No longer new" , "took a chance on becoming dependent" , "Enjoyed" , "Of clothes or cars, second-hand" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
