Crossword Genius

Show indifference right through small embrace (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

shrug

'show indifference' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'right through small embrace' is the wordplay.
'right' becomes 'r' (common abbreviation).
'through' indicates putting letters inside (inserted letters go through the word).
'small' becomes 's' (abbreviation - e.g. clothes size).
'embrace' becomes 'hug' (hug is a kind of embrace).
's'+'hug'='shug'
'r' inserted inside 'shug' is 'SHRUG'.

(Other definitions for shrug that I've seen before include "Gesture expressing unconcern" , "woolly" , "Gesture of uncertainty or not knowing" , "indifferent response" , "Raise (shoulders) slightly" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
