Show teeth, perhaps, first one extracted in a figure of speech (5)

I believe the answer is:

smile

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'show' is the definition.
(I know that smile is a more specific form of show)

'teeth perhaps first one extracted in a figure of speech' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'first' could be 'i' (Roman numeral for one or first) and 'i' is found within the answer.
'figure' could be 'l' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'l' is found within the answer.
'one' could be 'me' (a setter might use 'one' to humourously mean 'me') and 'me' is found within the remaining letters.
A single letter 's' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for smile that I've seen before include "Show amusement or pleasure" , "Show you're pleased" , "Pleased expression" , "Show pleasure in slime" , "Friendly facial gesture" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
