Show unwelcome interest in giving an orchestra work (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

snoop

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'show unwelcome interest in giving an orchestra' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'work' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'work' could be 'op' (common abbreviation for 'opus') and 'op' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for snoop that I've seen before include "Informally, pry inquisitively" , "-- Dogg, US rapper; spy" , "Furtively investigate" , "Investigate; pry" , "Stick one's nose in" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
