Crossword Genius

Small and mischievous the Spanish finish in Paris (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

elfin

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'small and mischievous' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'the spanish finish in paris' is the wordplay.
'the spanish' becomes 'el' ('the' in Spanish).
'finish in paris' becomes 'fin' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'el'+'fin'='ELFIN'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for elfin that I've seen before include "Small, delicate and charming" , "Mischievous sprite" , "Small; impish" , "little character" , "Dainty" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
