Some effigy in the orchard (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

fig

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the orchard' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'some effigy in' is the wordplay.
'some' says the answer is hidden in the clue (some of the parts of the word are used).
'FIG' is hidden in the letters of 'effigy in'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for fig that I've seen before include "This tree's leaf may cover nudity" , "Sweet fleshy fruit, often dried" , "Tree whose leaf may cover nudity" , "Fruit with many seeds" , "Soft pear-shaped fruit" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
