Somebody shy restoring Ms Beauregarde? (9,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

shrinking violet

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'somebody' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are singular nouns.
Perhaps you can see an association between them that I can't see?

'shy restoring ms beauregarde?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'shy' could be 'shrink' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'shrink' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for shrinking violet that I've seen before include "shy type" , "Exaggeratedly shy person" , "Person not likely to stand out" , "Plant not growing" , "wallflower" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
