Crossword Genius

Spooner's low-alcohol drink a boon to errant drivers (5,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

white line

'a boon to errant drivers' is the definition.
(UK road marking)

'spooner's low-alcohol drink' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'drink' could be 'it' and 'it' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
