'stand' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are singular nouns.
Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

'ease back pressure' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'back' could be 'rear' (something's rear is its back) and 'rear' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'to' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

I've seen this clue in The Times and The Sunday Times.
