Crossword Genius

Standard manoeuvre of group with king, perhaps (3,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

set piece

'standard manoeuvre' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'group with king perhaps' is the wordplay.
'group' becomes 'set' (both can mean a collection).
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'king perhaps' becomes 'piece' (king is a kind of piece).
'set'+'piece'='SET PIECE'

'of' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for set piece that I've seen before include "Carefully prepared performance (from free kick?)" , "Formal or elaborate arrangement as in art" , "Something arranged for maximum effect" , "Elaborately arranged display" , "well-rehearsed manoeuvre" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
