Ross

I believe the answer is:

cardigan

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'stop' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'couturier wearing silver from the east' is the wordplay.
'couturier' becomes 'cardin' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'wearing' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'silver' becomes 'Ag' (Ag is the chemical symbol for silver).
'from the east' says the letters should be written backwards (on a map from right to left).
'ag' in reverse letter order is 'ga'.
'cardin' placed around 'ga' is 'CARDIGAN'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cardigan that I've seen before include "Lord and outer garment" , "corgi" , "location of Welsh bay" , "Woollen jacket" , "town in Wales" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
