Crossword Genius

Stressed editor after cooking pies and mash (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

emphasised

'stressed' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'editor after cooking pies and mash' is the wordplay.
'editor' becomes 'ed' (abbreviation).
'after' says to put letters next to each other.
'cooking' indicates an anagram (cook can mean to falsify or distort).
'and' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'pies' after 'mash' is 'mashpies'.
'mashpies' with letters rearranged gives 'emphasis'.
'ed' put after 'emphasis' is 'EMPHASISED'.

(Other definitions for emphasised that I've seen before include "Made more clearly defined; smashed pie (anag.)" , "Stressed" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
