Ross

I believe the answer is:

spades

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'suit' is the definition.
(playing card suit)

'spring brides get a fifty per cent cut on' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'spring' could be 'spa' (spa can mean a mineral spring) and 'spa' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'des' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for spades that I've seen before include "Shovels or playing cards" , "those getting soiled?" , "Does some groundwork" , "One of two black suits" , "Card suits and shovels" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
