Textile manufacturer's bequest to his son? (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

heirloom

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'textile manufacturer's bequest' is the definition.
'heirloom' can be an answer for 'bequest' (thesaurus). I am not sure about the 'textile manufacturer's' bit.

'his son?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'son?' could be 'heir' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'heir' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'loom' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'to' is the link.

(Other definitions for heirloom that I've seen before include "Valuable family piece" , "Object passed down through a family for generations" , "Family artefact" , "one long in the family" , "Valuable item still in family" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
