Thread on the subject of OT woman (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

reeve

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'thread' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'on the subject of ot woman' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'on' could be 're' (regarding) and 're' is present in the answer.
'woman' could be 'eve' (Eve is an example) and 'eve' is located in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for reeve that I've seen before include "sort of ruff" , "Bailiff, steward" , "old-fashioned official" , "The bailiff to run a rope through" , "fasten rope" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
