Crossword Genius

Time for an egg? Extremely likely to give you wind (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

easterly

'wind' is the definition.
(easterly is a kind of wind)

'time for an egg? extremely likely' is the wordplay.
'time for an egg?' becomes 'easter'.
'extremely' says to hollow out the word (remove centre letters).
'likely' with its middle taken out is 'ly'.
'easter'+'ly'='EASTERLY'

'to give you' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for easterly that I've seen before include "Year's let (anag) - direction of 15" , "large blow" , "Wind coming from Britain, say" , "Invariably cold wind" , "Of wind, blowing from direction of rising sun" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
