Crossword Genius

Topless lady one expelled from garden (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

adam

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'garden' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'topless lady one expelled from' is the wordplay.
'topless' means to remove the first letter.
'lady' becomes 'Eada'.
'one expelled from' becomes 'm' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'eada' with its first letter taken off is 'ada'.
'ada'+'m'='ADAM'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for adam that I've seen before include "According to the Bible, progenitor of the human race" , "expelled gardener" , "Father of Cain and Abel" , "Robert-, eighteenth century Scots architect" , "Man on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
