I know nothing about this answer so I can't judge whether this works.
'how to escape' is the wordplay.
'how' becomes 'clear' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'to' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other) (I've seen this in other clues).
'escape' becomes 'get' (I've seen this before).
'clear' after 'get' is 'GET CLEAR'.
