Crossword Genius

Uppity attitude about orange juice getting a stronger drink (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

rioja

'a stronger drink' is the definition.
'rioja' can be an answer for 'drink' (Rioja is an example). I am not certain of the 'a stronger' bit.

'uppity attitude about orange juice' is the wordplay.
'uppity' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'attitude' becomes 'air' (I've seen this before).
'about' indicates putting letters inside.
'orange juice' becomes 'oj'.
'air' in reverse letter order is 'ria'.
'ria' enclosing 'oj' is 'RIOJA'.

'getting' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for rioja that I've seen before include "Spanish red wine" , "Popular Spanish wine" , "Dry red wine from Spain" , "Spanish wine type" , "it comes from grapevine" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
