Urge quiet with children around (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

speed

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'urge' is the definition.
(thesaurus)

'quiet with children around' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'quiet' could be 'p' (music symbol for 'piano', ie soft or quiet) and 'p' is located in the answer.
'children' could be 'seed' (seed can mean one's offspring) and 'seed' is located in the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for speed that I've seen before include "Move quickly (and illegally?)" , "'More haste, less . . . . .'" , "Dispatch" , "A devilish quick driver?" , "Pace or tempo" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
