Crossword Genius

Weakness for very loud ties, at first turning heads (4,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

soft spot

'weakness' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'very loud ties at first turning heads' is the wordplay.
'very' becomes 'so' (I've seen this in other clues).
'loud' becomes 'f' (short for forte - 'loud' in music).
'ties at' becomes 'spot' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'first turning' becomes 't' (sst letter of 'turning').
'heads' means one lot of letters go next to another (some letters go ahead of others).
'spot' put after 't' is 'tspot'.
'so'+'f'+'tspot'='SOFT SPOT'

'for' is the link.

(Other definitions for soft spot that I've seen before include "Emotional susceptibility" , "Sentimental affection" , "showing fondness" , "Sentimental fondness" , "Affectionate weakness for (someone/something)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
