Wet as the intellectual, no longer big headed? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

rainy

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'wet' is the definition.
(similar in meaning)

'as the intellectual no longer big headed?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'as' could be 'in' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'in' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ray' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for rainy that I've seen before include "With water falling outside" , "(Of weather) wet" , "Wet, showery" , "Save your money for this damp day" , "Drizzly" .)
