What cool-headed, possibly aged beggars do (5)
I believe the answer is:
cadge
'beggars do' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their base form, I can't understand how they can define each other.
'what cool-headed possibly aged' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'aged' is 'adge' which is located in the answer.
A single letter 'c' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for cadge that I've seen before include "get free" , "freeload" , "Get by begging" , "Try to borrow" , "Scrounge (money, etc)" .)
