Crossword Genius

Where, for dancing, a girl gets gold (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

floor

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'where for dancing a' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.

'girl gets gold' is the wordplay.
'girl' becomes 'flo' (short for Florence).
'gets' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'gold' becomes 'or' ('or' is the heraldic name for gold).
'flo'+'or'='FLOOR'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for floor that I've seen before include "Bottom surface" , "Part of building" , "Puzzle" , "Minimum (price) level" , "Knock down - planking" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
