Crossword Genius

With offence clear, turned around game (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tennis

'game' is the definition.
(I know that tennis is a type of court game)

'with offence clear turned' is the wordplay.
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'offence' becomes 'sin' (a sin is an offence or transgression).
'clear' becomes 'net' (as in net profit).
'turned' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'sin' next to 'net' is 'sinnet'.
'sinnet' written backwards gives 'TENNIS'.

'around' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for tennis that I've seen before include "Ball game with a net" , "Game played with racquets" , "Game that depends on service" , "Pete Sampras's game" , "Wimbledon sport" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
