Crossword Genius

Without catalogues, without interest (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

listlessly

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'without' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are adverbs.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'catalogues without interest' is the wordplay.
'catalogues' becomes 'list'.
'without' becomes 'less' (I've seen this in another clue).
'interest' becomes 'ly' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'list'+'less'+'ly'='LISTLESSLY'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for listlessly that I've seen before include "Koko would never sing his party piece so" , "unenthusiastically" , "unenthusiastic manner" , "Languidly" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
