Crossword Genius

Without interest or leaning, apparently (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

listlessly

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'apparently' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are adverbs. Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'without interest or leaning' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'without' could be 'less' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'less' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for listlessly that I've seen before include "unenthusiastic manner" , "unenthusiastically" , "Languidly" , "Koko would never sing his party piece so" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
