Crossword Genius

Women leaving one of their kind in Arab sultanate (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

oman

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'sultanate' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'women leaving one' is the wordplay.
'women leaving' becomes 'om' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'one' becomes 'an' (I've seen this in other clues).
'om'+'an'='OMAN'

'of their kind in arab' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for oman that I've seen before include "Sultanate on the south-east coast of the Arabian Peninsula" , "Sultanate in southwest Asia" , "Arabian peninsula country" , "Middle Eastern country" , "Former Gulf country, Muscat and --" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
