Crossword Genius

Wrestle with pages in large spread (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

grapple

'wrestle with' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'pages in large spread' is the wordplay.
'pages' becomes 'pp' (an abbreviation for page written twice).
'in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'spread' indicates anagramming the letters.
'large' anagrammed gives 'grale'.
'pp' going inside 'grale' is 'GRAPPLE'.

(Other definitions for grapple that I've seen before include "struggle" , "Clutch" , "Attempt to get hold of, or seize" , "Wrestle mentally (with)" , "Engage in close fighting" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times and The Sun.
