A growing reason why it's unwise to embrace a girl? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

radish

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a growing reason why' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

'unwise to embrace a girl?' is the wordplay.
'unwise' becomes 'rash'.
'to embrace' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'a girl?' becomes 'di' ().
'rash' placed around 'di' is 'RADISH'.

'it's' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for radish that I've seen before include "Plant with crisp root eaten raw" , "3 down" , "Root vegetable used in salads" , "Daikon or mooli" , "Bit of salad" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
