Ross

I believe the answer is:

skewer

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'roasting' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

I cannot understand how the remainder of the clue works.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for skewer that I've seen before include "Criticise pointedly" , "Spear" , "Pin for food" , "Pierce, impale" , "Spike on which kebab is cooked" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail and The Irish Independent.
