Deny having daughter's ring put in a car? (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

disavow

'deny' is the definition.
(I know that disavow is a more specific form of the action deny)

'daughter's ring put in a car?' is the wordplay.
'daughter's' becomes 'disa' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'ring' becomes 'O' (letter resembling a ring).
'put in' means one lot of letters goes inside another (back).
'a car?' becomes 'VW' (Volkswagen car).
'o' inserted within 'vw' is 'vow'.
'disa'+'vow'='DISAVOW'

'having' is the link.

(Other definitions for disavow that I've seen before include "To deny support" , "Refuse to acknowledge" , "Disclaim" , "Deny responsibility for (something)" , "To deny knowledge of" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
