Crossword Genius

Divert and please on a seaside walk (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

esplanade

'a seaside walk' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'divert and please on' is the wordplay.
'divert' indicates an anagram (I've seen 'diverted' mean this (each letter get diverted elsewhere)).
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'and' after 'please' is 'pleaseand'.
'pleaseand' with letters rearranged gives 'ESPLANADE'.

(Other definitions for esplanade that I've seen before include "Walkway beside the seashore" , "Seaside walking area" , "Space for a stroll by the seaside" , "Seaside resort walk" , "Long level area for walking beside the sea" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
