Crossword Genius

Dramatic recital that nearly goes badly (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

theatrical

'dramatic' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'recital that nearly goes badly' is the wordplay.
'nearly' means to remove the last letter.
'goes badly' is an anagram indicator (I've seen 'going badly' mean this).
'recital'+'that'='recitalthat'
'recitalthat' with its final letter taken off is 'recitaltha'.
'recitaltha' anagrammed gives 'THEATRICAL'.

(Other definitions for theatrical that I've seen before include "Excessively dramatic" , "Artificial and exaggerated" , "Showbiz" , "Relating to acting/actors" , "Stagy" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
